Finally our storybook is done…added in more details and standardise the size and colours. We have decided to use 5 by 7 inches (about the same size as normal ladybird storybooks), so that it is easier to handle. We also decided to use matte finishing and thicker paper (260g) so that it is more durable.

Yesterday we went to Queensway shopping centre to print the storybook. Below is our final story:

Gerald, Raine and I will be working on this assignment together to create a storybook for children between 6-8 years old.  We have been thinking in the perspective of a children and came out with several ideas.

  1. Famous characters that would catch the children’s attention
  2. Pirates – it sounds cool to a kid
  3. Treasure hunt – an adventure story that kids would be interested in

Therefore, we decide to combine all the ideas together and came out with the story of ‘The Three Little Pigs – Part 2′. This story main characters are the famous 3 little pigs. But now they will transform into pirate pigs and set sail over the seven seas to search for treasure. The whole story talks about process that they have learnt from the sailing and not the final treasure, normally gold and jewellery.

 Below are our rough sketches:

This project is done by raine and me. We are suppose to pick 2 designs, one good and one bad, and then analyse it using gestalt principles. We decided to use movie posters for both design so that it is easier to compare.

Good Design – Dead Ringers

This is a classroom activity to show the application of Gestalt principles. Mr. Reddy said that the principles can be applied to the images depending on how you look at it. (hmmm…kind of complicated)

Out of so many posters I did, I finally decided to use back this very first idea. I think no one would be so lame to ‘Save the Pig’, so it would be more unique (I think so???, whahaha). And the image must be original work, so this poster is the best because i really draw all the image myself (:P).

The feedback from the class is that the bubble should show a roasted pig instead of a pig with cross eyes. So i try to draw one and put it on a plate with an apple in its mouth (I don’t know why must put an apple. It’s like a kind of custom, hehe).

Haha, finally finished the touch up for my very first assignment. Added in more effects.

Like – Created a border so that the snow effect is visible. I have also distorted the branches so that it looks less squarish.

Dislike – More smoke effect to show that the cigarettes are lighted.

My idea is to show a romantic feeling. Therefore I decided to use snow to depict the kind of mood. Puppies are used to represent the pure and innocent puppy love. The calm blue colour represents a very smooth and warm feeling. Hence, I put in the quote “Love keeps you warm.”

    Assignment 4 – Poster (2)

Based on the feedback from my brothers, I have made some changes to the poster.

“Save the pigs” – added in the “ba gua” paper bag to let people know that the pigs are made into food.

Change the ‘ba gua’ to a dead pig because the paper bag may have copyright issue.

“Take public transport” – added in some articles so that it is more realistic and easier to understand.

Heard from Gerald must be “save…” or “stop….” theme. Hence, I change to the theme to “stop driving”. ;P

    Assignment 4 – Poster(1)

hmmm…finally i finished my poster. After asking around, i decide to use the “Save the Pigs” one but it’s kind of lame. So i did 2 more “Drifting is dangerous” and “Take public transport”.

    Assignment 4 – Draft 1

Did the design out using photoshop and Illustrator. For the theme – save the pigs, i have some problems because the pigs don’t really look sad. So i must make some changes to it.

Haven’t add in the text yet, will try to improve on the design first.
